Profile
The Four Waterfalls Walk is a popular hiking trail in the Brecon Beacons National Park in South Wales, United Kingdom. As the name suggests, the walk takes visitors on a circular route that passes by four stunning waterfalls, including Sgwd Isaf Clun-gwyn, Sgwd y Pannwr, Sgwd Clun-gwyn, and Sgwd yr Eira.
The trail is approximately 6.5 miles (10.5 kilometers) long and takes around 2-3 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how much time you spend at each waterfall. It is a moderate level hike with some steep sections and uneven terrain, so it is important to wear appropriate footwear and take care, especially in wet or slippery conditions.
Each waterfall has its own unique charm and beauty, from the powerful flow of Sgwd Isaf Clun-gwyn to the stunning curtain of water at Sgwd yr Eira. Visitors can get up close and personal with the falls, with some of the waterfalls even offering the opportunity to walk behind the curtain of water.
The walk has several access points to starts and end. The four waterfalls included in the walk are:
- Sgwd Clun-Gwyn: A 30-foot waterfall on the River Hepste, which flows through a wooded gorge.
- Sgwd Isaf Clun-Gwyn: Also known as the Lower Clun-gwyn waterfall, this 20-meter waterfall is situated on the River Mellte.
- Sgwd y Pannwr: A smaller, but no less beautiful, waterfall that drops into a deep pool of water.
- Sgwd yr Eira: The most famous of the four waterfalls, Sgwd yr Eira is known for its unique location behind the curtain of water that falls from the cliff above.
The walk takes visitors through picturesque woodlands, along riverside paths, and up steep hills, offering stunning views of the waterfalls and the surrounding countryside. Along the way, there are plenty of opportunities to stop and take in the scenery, as well as enjoy a picnic or a swim in one of the many natural pools.
Overall, the Four Waterfalls Walk is a fantastic way to experience the natural beauty of the Brecon Beacons National Park and is a must-do for anyone visiting the area.
